Community Pharmacy's owner and resident pharmacist is Steve Kasnik. Steve grew up in Elmira, NY, where he played basketball, ran track and worked for his father. He is a graduate of Albany College of Pharmacy. Following a career which has included working as a pharmacist in a hospital, at a home infusion supplier, an independent pharmacy and the Rite Aid chain, Steve purchased what would become Community Pharmacy in the spring of 2003, with the intention of providing the Canastota community with the kind of individualized service large corporations are often too busy or rigid to provide. "Large drug store chains have so much paper work, and often fixed suppliers, which make it difficult to try to find some kinds of products or medicines a particular customer might need or want," Steve says. "I have the freedom of being able to do business with any supplier, and to spend the time it might take to research a new or different product, and get it into my store. "Thats a major difference between an independently owned pharmacy, like Community Pharmacy, and a pharmacy that's part of a chain, or a supermarket."
