Michelle. writes from (Lufkin, TX):"April, 2003. My daughter Roxan, was recently promoted to Sergeant, after only 3 years being a Marine. Roxan's brother LCPL Josh is deployed somewhere in Iraq. The youngest 2 of our 4 children, Josh joined the Marines in Sept. of 1999 and Roxan joined in Jan. 2000. When Josh and Roxan met back up at home in Lufkin, Tx, after boot camp and MOS school, Roxan told Josh she planned on beating him in Rank. Of course he laughed at her since she is his little sister, but lo and behold she has out ranked him! She didn't even want us to write and tell Josh while he is over there because she didn't want to hurt his feelings, I told her nonsense, Josh would be tickled about her promotion and he will be. "Prior to joining the Marines, both had graduated from Lufkin High School, after which Josh attended Louisiana Tech In Ruston, La. and Roxan attended University of Houston, in Houston, Tx. " I am extremely Proud to be a Marine Mom." |
B. Watson. writes from (Brocton, IL):"A 1999 graduate of Shiloh High School, my 21 year old son joined the Marines in May of 2000. It was his own decision to join and he knows as his mother, I'll back him 100 percent. He went to basic training at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, CA. and was permanently stationed at the Marine Air Base in Beaufort,SC. He was deployed to the Arabian Sea on the USS Theodore Roosevelt on Sept. 19, 2001. While aboard an aircraft carrier in Afghanistan his squadron set many records and was named the squadron of the year last year. He was married in January 2003, and deployed to the Middle East on February 12. When we heard from him April 8, 2003, he said he is doing OK and that they have loaded 1 million pounds of ordnance already. "I am scared and worried as a mother, but I am very proud of him." |

Judi D. writes from(Dubuque, Iowa): |
| "My husband, Ken joined the Navy in August 1990, after graduation from Ogemaw Heights H.S,Lupton, MI. He has been hard charging ever since. Not only has he managed to earn several Navy Achievement Medals for his hard work, but his dedication has earned him the title of "Sailor of the Year" at two of his commands. Ken was called for duty to the Gulf to help ensure the safety of America's ships when they pulled into foreign ports shortly after the USS Cole was bombed. He's currently serving aboard the USS (... ) as a Leading Petty Officer in the engineering department. He has shown genuine concern for the well-being of his shipmates and is always encouraging the younger guys to re-enlist and make the Navy a CAREER. "Ken has represented the Navy well in our community of Spring Valley, CA, also. He is a member of the PTA and a volunteer for the America's Youth Karate program. He is a loving husband and an outstanding father...teaching our little girls about respecting the flag, loving our country, and the importance of being a good citizen. He is, and will always be, my American Hero." -- Christine D, Grant Community H.S. Class of 1990, Antioch, IL |

My boyfriend, Rct. Matthew R. Fontenot, joined the Marines in February,2003 and is currently in South Carolina for basic training. Since Matt was old enough to talk he said he wanted to be a soldier. He did not have any conception of what a soldier was, but he knew that was his dream. He attended, and graduated, from a military school and soon after signed up. He is my companion, my protector, and most of all my best friend. He and thousands of other service men and women are the reason we live in this great nation. I sleep easier at night knowing that I will be protected by him. I am proud to stand by his side and as hard as it is to say good-bye to him, I know in my heart that he is keeping me safe. Paul H. is one of 3 Navy brothers, with a Navy Dad! "Paul has been in the Navy since July 1998 when he joined as a Nuke. He attended A School, Power School and then onto Prototype. He had Staff Instructor Duty for 2 years and is now out to sea. We miss him very much. Paul's father Mark H. is a Senior Chief and has just over 20 years in the United States Navy. Paul's older brother is MM1 Wynston H., (E6) also a Nuke now back for instructor duty after finishing his duty station aboard the Truman. Paul's younger brother is MM3 Adam H. who just completed Prototype and is shortly to report to duty station aboard Lincoln CVN 72. So you see in the H. family there is a lot to be proud of. Father Senior Chief H. and then MM1 H, MM2 H and MM3 H. We are all very proud of them!"--writes Helen H., Paul's wife. Aye Aye to that! |
Welcome Home to the mighty USS CARL VINSON! "When everything happened on Sept. 11, the mighty USS CARL VINSON CVN-70 was the first ship to get over there and start the airstrikes. My husband Robert (Kelseyville, CA, High School) is my hero because he put his life on the line to protect our 3 year old son and me. Our son looks up to his Daddy. Here is a picture of the three of us together right after my husband got home."--writes Marilyn S., a graduate of Southwest Sr. High School,Hernando Fl. Yea, NAVY! |
