American Barn in Plain, Washington

"This picture was taken outside a small town in Washington state called Plain," writes photographer Gary Meader, of Bellingham. Mr. Meader, whose personal work is "done almost exclusively in large format", owns a custom black and white film processing laboratory in Bellingham and teaches an intermediate photography class at the community college.

"I wanted to take this time to thank each and every one of you out there fighting for our country. I have a 2 year old daughter that I want to be able to grow up in a free country and because of all of you she has that chance. You are very brave and very much supported. God Bless each and everyone of you and please come home safe and soon. Love," Jeanette, E. Spanaway, WA 98387

"Hello Troops--
I want to thank you for the great job you are doing. We are sure pulling for you. We hope your time there is short.
A large majority of people here are showing such support for all of our troops. Sometimes you hear critics and cynics, but I want you to know that there is a HUGE population of Americans that just go about our daily jobs and are quiet about how we feel. Please remember this letter and know that there are a gazillion of us out here that are proud of you and the job you are doing for our country.
Thanks guys and gals. I wish you could see all the yellow ribbons here in Yelm, WA and Roy, WA. We're thinkin' of ya."

"Just a short note to say,I think this is a great site. It is a way for some to show support and keep up with how other people are feeling. The idea of sending in pictures of servicemen/women is a great way to let them know we are proud of them. Thanks for the site."--
